Prohibition on Indian Residents Using the FCRA Account

The FCRA (Foreign Contribution) bank account is exclusively designated for receiving foreign contributions as defined under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010 (FCRA). Indian residents, Indian-registered companies, trusts, societies, and all entities domiciled in India are legally prohibited from transferring funds into this FCRA account.

  • Section 17 of the FCRA, 2010 strictly prohibits the deposit of domestic funds into an FCRA-designated account. Such a transfer — even if accidental — may constitute a violation and expose both the donor and the organisation to regulatory action by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
  • Indian donors must use only the domestic account (via the Indian Donor flow above) for all contributions.
  • Voice 4 Girls will not be responsible for legal consequences arising from donors who disregard this notice and transfer domestic funds to the FCRA account.

Who Qualifies as a Foreign Donor?

Under the FCRA, 2010, the following are treated as foreign contributions and must be routed through the FCRA account:

  • Donations from individuals, foundations, or organisations located outside India.
  • Donations from persons of foreign nationality (including OCI cardholders and foreign passport holders), even if physically present in India at the time of donation.
  • Funds collected on behalf of Voice 4 Girls by an Indian citizen based abroad.
  • NRIs holding valid Indian passports are not treated as foreign sources — their donations may be made via the Indian Donor channel and are not treated as foreign contribution under Section 2(1)(j) of the FCRA.

Accidentally Sent Funds to the Wrong Account?

If you have inadvertently transferred domestic funds into the FCRA account, please contact us immediately before the funds are processed or utilised. We will work with you and our bank to arrange a reversal at the earliest. Do not attempt any further transactions until the matter is resolved.
